Essential oils and their healing properties
Here are just a few of my favourite essential oils, which feature in many of my aromatherapy blends.
Chamomile
This is wonderful for soothing aches and pains and easing swelling. It is good for neuralgia, painful periods, IBS, eczema and burns. A strong sedative, it calms the mind and is safe to use in the latter trimestre of pregnancy.
Frankincense
An effective remedy for aches, pains, colds and chest problems, frankincense also fortifies the mind.
Geranium
Extremely effective in regulating hormonal imbalance such as painful periods, fluid retention and swollen joints. A mild anti-spasmodic, it can also treat indigestion and gastroenteritis. Geranium balances the emotions, ideal for exhaustion and anxiety.
Jasmine
The heady exotic aroma is known to be an aphrodisiac, and can be applied to improve intimacy issues, but is more widely used to treat reproduction, painful periods and PMS. It can irritate sensitive skins.
LavenderThis versatile flower can be used to treat just about anything, from skin problems to depression.
Neroli
This is perfect for extreme stress such as interviews, bad news and grief. It is also used to rejuvenate the skin and reduce stretch marks.
A favourite in cosmetics and toiletries, this feminine fragrant oil helps with impotence, anxiety, diabetes and gastric infections.
