stop smoking with hypnotherapy
Ready to Quit?

Research has found hypnotherapy to be the single most successful method of kicking the habit with 75% of smokers quitting during acclaimed clinical trials.
Barton Health Paul & Beth Hewitt

It is illegal and unethical to offer individual success rates for treatment,  but our combined  approach with hypnotherapy and / or acupuncture can bring permanent results.

We can help you prepare for a smoke-free life, even if you have tried to quit a number of times before. Even if you have tried hypnosis or acupuncture before, therapists work differently and we like to think there is always the right therapist for the right person at the right time and it's never too late to quit. Call to decide whether hypnotherapy or acupuncture is best for you. You already possess all the attributes and inner resources you need. We provide the guidance and space to reveal them.

Once you have made the life-changing decision to stop smoking, the first step towards lasting success is a no-obligation chat over the phone. We talk about why you want to quit now, what held you back in the past and how hypnotherapy or acupuncture can help.

All we ask is that you commit to a personalised action plan for change, and choose 2 hypnotherapy sessions  or 4 acupuncture treatments, or a combined approach.

Hypnotherapy ~ quit in 2 sessions

We allow 2-3 hours for your first session. We look at your reasons to quit, your previous attempts, and any apprehension or resistance to quitting. We also take into account your stress levels, lifestyle, diet, sleeping habits and support network. We consider the health risks of smoking and compare what life will be like without cigarettes. Then we start to decide what will work for you, how you operate and what you need. We work through some hypnosis to give you motivation, will power and determination. Before your next session we set you a few homework tasks to help you on your way.

In the second session of  we evaluate your progress, address any difficulties and look to the future for that smoke-free lifestyle. Hypnotherapy taps into those powerful resources that made you think about quitting, that formed your personality, that founded your core beliefs about the world around you. Together we build strength and resilience to maintain healthy habits and cultivate a determination to reject smoking. Permanently.

At the end of your course of treatment we provide a pack of information full of aftercare advice and resources to stay smoke-free. Some clients feel they only need 2 sessions and enjoy a healthy, wholesome life without the need to smoke. Others may occasionally come back to avoid relapse, particularly during stressful times. People can be more vulnerable to falter during difficulties at home or at work. We are always here to deal with stress and help resist temptation.

Acupuncture ~ quit in 3 weeks

We offer a fascinating treatment package for smokers to support willpower and eliminate cravings during those critical first few days after quitting. Nicotine is not physically addictive but for those first days ex-smokers are more vulnerable to relapse. Research has shown that if you can resist temptation in the first 48 hours after quitting, you are 90% more likely to stop smoking permanently.

Acupuncture - 4 sessions over 3 weeks

Your first two treatments should happen within those first crucial days, ideally no more than 4 days apart. We begin with a 90 minute session involving a  consultation and light treatment. We explore why you chose to quit now and what has stopped you before. Light needling at specific points around the body will help foster your willpower and reduce impulsive cravings. Preferably within 4 days you should then have your second session, this time a treatment lasting one hour. Your third and final treatments should be arranged a week apart, so that your course spans 3 weeks. Over the course we look at the health risks caused by smoking, and consider the benefits of a smoke-free lifestyle. We arm you with full aftercare and a helpful resource pack of information and tips to resist temptation.

Ear Seeds - single treatment

Ear seeds are a gentle, non-invasive way of controlling cravings. They can be used independently, as part of your acupuncture course, or to supplement your hypnotherapy.  They are useful for ex-smokers, but also for people trying to lose weight. For lasting relief, tiny "seeds" can be left in place and pressed several times a day to subdue cravings and impulses by stimulating specific acupuncture points. Viscera or poppy seeds, or tiny balbearings are placed on the ear, without breaking the skin.  They stay in place with discreet, non-allergenic adhesive patches. The patches naturally fall off after several days.

Talk groups

It always helps to share your experiences with others. This two-way therapy can help everyone to gain a deeper understanding of the difficultes many face when quitting, and why people relapse. It also gives you a social network to rely on if you find it difficult to socialise with your old smoking friends. You can enrol with a local NHS Stop Smoking Service. These free schemes help you to set targets and find support.

For the North Lincolnsire branch in Brigg call 08456 032166 or visit www.freedomfromsmoke.co.uk . What the service cannot do is help the body to eliminate toxins, relieve your cough or treat the subconscious, which controls your decision-making.

Gums and Patches

Patches allow the skin to absorb a small dose of nicotine throughout the day, while gums allow you to ingest nicotine as you chew. Cravings are satisfied without damage to the lungs. There are several down sides, though. These products can be expensive and only provide a short-term solution. They are often produced by the same companies that manufacture cigarettes, so your money goes to the same people! Gums do not always taste nice and at work chewing can be deemed unprofessional.

Patches and gums only mask cravings - they do not remove them. Even if you manage not to smoke it will take several days after you stop using patches before cravings will subside naturally. Nicotine remains in the bloodstream, and it is the patch beating the urge to smoke, not you. This causes a never-ending cycle of quitting, believing you have beaten the cravings, going it alone, then feeling that you have failed when you cannot resist a cigarette. Not great for self-esteem or motivation to live smoke-free.

Cigarette pen

Great for keeping the hands busy if you miss the habitual ritual of smoking. The pen can cause problems if you find it hard to switch off thinking about what the pen represents. A constant reminder of what you miss most will damage your willpower and motivation. Perhaps it is more helpful to have a video game or something totally unrelated to smoking, just to occupy you during the 3 minutes it takes for a craving to subside.
